Digital twins to develop algorithms that predict the risk of injury

That was the message presented by Miquel A. Bru, co-founder and CBDO of Made of Genes, during the 4YFN event at the Mobile World Congress Doha, which took place on 25 and 26 November 2025.

Invited by the Barça Innovation Hub, we shared how we have been working jointly with FC Barcelona for three years now, and how digital twins allow us to develop algorithms that predict the risk of injury and enhance performance, enabling us to focus on prevention, faster recovery, and sustained performance.

The 360º Multimodal Digital Twin unifies internal data ranging from genetics to metabolomics, proteomics, body composition, what athletes eat, how they sleep, as well as external load, i.e., the physical work they undertake each day. In this manner, Made of Genes deploys artificial intelligence models that convert this data into early signals (orange flags), rules, and simulations integrated into the athlete’s clinical and performance workflow with the primary objective of injury prevention. They also serve to optimize other areas such as nutrition, allowing for a global perspective to enhance performance and prolong competitive longevity.”
