From September 9 to 10, we participated in the World Health Expo (WHX) Tech in Dubai. Invited by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and hand-in-hand with the Barça Innovation Hub (BIHUB), we took part in a firechat, a more relaxed conversation where Dr. Gil Rodas, Head of Sports Medicine at BIHUB, as an expert, and Miquel A. Bru, co-founder of Made of Genes, discussed how scientific innovation is applied in high-performance sports.
While a genetic predisposition can remain latent if epigenetic mechanisms regulate it favorably, an advantageous genetic profile can be harmed by an unfavorable epigenetic environment—such as lack of sleep, an unhealthy diet, or overtraining.
“Understanding an athlete’s genetic and epigenetic profile may help with personalized prevention strategies”, said Dr. Gil Rodas, Head of Sports Medicine at BIHUB.
To identify injury risks and maintain sustained performance, Made of Genes and FC Barcelona have developed a digital twin avatar of each player. Simulations are created to optimize their physical performance and evaluate injury risks throughout the season.
“Together, we are transforming personalized medicine into a reality through scientific innovation,” said Miquel A. Bru, Co-founder of Made of Genes.
